final notes

Some examples might appear contradictory, and despite hinting a political undertone, almost all of them come from brands and general consumerism.

It would be very easy to call me a hypocrite based on that.

I’d like to emphasize that for me there is a very very thin line between what is cute and what is not cute, and this manifesto is only an attempt at putting it into words.

I also highly recommend reading the “Lolita culture” article I linked, as it describes in much more detail the complexity and paradox of cuteness.

(For the record I also don’t wear makeup
or flashy colors irl)

That being said, I do encourage anyone who reads this to rely on second hand buying, thrifting, or even DIY projects if you would like to surround yourself with more cuteness!!
Meanwhile I’ll be waiting for the democratization of plastic alternatives so I can make my own environmentally-friendly magical girl toys…

This manifesto might be updated in the future with more (or better) examples. I’m also considering using this page to explain the difference between specific examples (e.g. Decoden vs OTT Sweet Lolita).
